The History of Mike's Brick Oven Pizza

ImageThe building dates back to 1911 and in the 1930s it was home to Elliot's Grocery Store. In the 1960s and early 1970s it was home to Drumheller's Grocery Store. They added a small grill and sold sandwiches. The old grill and kitchen area was located where all the seating is now and the grocery store was located where Mike's huge kitchen is now!

Drumheller also had a small barber shop located in the back. In 1974 Drumheller's was sold to Leonard Bernhardt and the name was changed to Bernhardt's for a couple of years. As the sandwich business grew, he changed the name to Hoagie Haven. Hoagie Haven was a very popular spot because of its sandwiches. Later Leonard added a game room in the back with pinball machines and a pool table. Hoagie Haven remained very popular over the years; they always had the best sandwich rolls which were also sold by Bernhardt's successful Conshohocken Rolls Delivery business.

In the winter of 1998 Bernhardt turned the operation over to young entrepreneur Mike Crater and Mike's Brick Oven was born! Mike's officially opened its doors in March of 1999. Extensive renovations were done as pizza ovens were added along with a larger cooking area. Later a small dining room was added. Today Mike's Brick Oven is dedicated to serving the best food possible along with those legendary Conshohocken Rolls!

In the fall of 2003 Mike's Horror Hotel was born - a walk through haunted house to give the locals a great fall season. In the winter of 2006 Mike's Christmas Bazaar was born where you can shop during the holiday season and save money on many holiday items. In addition to all the great items for sale be sure to check out all the lights and displays (see our photo gallery)

Mike's is also thought to be haunted! Several unexplainable things have happened over the years; be sure to ask Mike or any worker about it next time you come in!
